ABSTRACT

I will if you will ... people are more likely to change their behaviour if they see

others are doing it too, making them feel that their efforts are worthwhile. It

just needs that first step, or the second or even the third, and the aim of this

chapter is to give you a helping hand along the way. We take you through how

to get a better understanding of your carbon footprint and then offer you lots

of practical tips on how you can reduce your domestic energy consumption,

drive down your travel carbon emissions, save carbon on your food and drink

and reduce waste. You will save money, you will be healthier and your quality

of life will be better. Health practitioners can be exemplars within the growing

movement of people worldwide living the low-carbon, healthy lifestyle that is

so much more fulfilling and rewarding. By doing so, because you are a health

practitioner, you will have a huge impact on wider public and political attitudes

and behaviour. Though we have based our descriptions on the carbon foot-

print of people in the United Kingdom, we hope that readers in other countries

can easily adapt the suggestions to their own circumstances.
