ABSTRACT

As Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM),

Britain’s national school of public health and a leading postgraduate institution

worldwide for research and postgraduate education in global health, I have had

the opportunity to reflect on the crucial importance of environmental factors

to human health. I have also developed a personal interest (in collaboration

with colleagues at the LSHTM and internationally) in studying the impacts of

climate variability and change on human health and the effects of climate

change mitigation strategies, including the provision of clean energy, on public

health.
