ABSTRACT
This chapter highlights the special concerns of substance use (alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs) in the LGBT community. The goal is to help those individuals who treat persons with substance use to better understand the unique issues and needs within the LGBT community. Practitioners will be more effective if they understand how the contemporary LGBT community is defined, the distinctive patterns and unique risk factors of LGBT substance abuse, and treatment options and resources.
