ABSTRACT

Geographically speaking, Macao (People's Republic of China) is located on the south-eastern coast of China in the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong Province. However, one can hardly locate the city on a map as it barely occupies a total area of 29.2km2 (Macao Statistics Census and Service, 2008). The entire city comprises a peninsula (known as the Macao Peninsular) and two islands – Taipa and Coloane. The northern end of the Macao Peninsular is a border gateway to mainland China. This border gateway connects Macao to the mainland territory of Gong Bei, a small county of Zhuhai City in the larger Guangdong Province.
