ABSTRACT
Not even Yogi Berra would have had difficulty recognizing the phenomenon. Although Zakaria's book is an essay deeply rooted in the present, it evokes that unsettling feeling of having been here before. Of course, as in all cases of déjà vu, the reader of Zakaria's essay knows that we have not been here before. After all, The Post-American World is entirely new: it focuses on the challenges that the United States faces today as a result of the dramatic changes that have swept the international system since the turn of the millennium. Three changes stand out.
