ABSTRACT

Right, years ago, I can’t remember how long ago, I was working making tarmacs – and I was earning myself £1,200 a month and I was working overtime. That’s why I was getting so much money but I didn’t have time to spend it. So what I done is I took a week off. I bought clothes. I was going out but there was still a lot of money left so I didn’t know what was I going to do with it. Now, I’ve already tasted heroin. I’ve already tasted crack but I liked it so I thought ‘right, I’ll go and buy myself a little rock’ so I bought a £50 rock. It was nice. I was working, yeah? So the rock was nice. Then I took another week off, then another week off, then another week off. Then my boss said to me: ‘We don’t want you any more. You’re not even fucking coming in. You’re sacked’. So what I’m trying to say is one minute I’m a working-class citizen and this is how the crack’s taken over, do you know what I mean? Then the next thing I know I’m not working any more. Say like you took smoke [crack]. You won’t be addicted to it but you’d like it. You would like it. You’d like the feeling. I think the first time when you take it, it’s good for sex. You can go on and you can fuck for hours and you can chat; chatting, talk a lot of shit but you’re rabbiting on ‘Yeah man. This is good’. Then you take another one. Then you take another one, then another one and the next thing you know the tables have turned, and you’ll be sitting here [points at me then at his seat] and someone else will be sitting there [points at my seat] asking you questions.
