ABSTRACT
This chapter offers details on the research context: Rivertown. It first provides an overview of Rivertown’s social demographics. Second, it examines the number of drug users, including crack users, in Rivertown. Third, it provides a basic description of drug support services. Last, it describes the operation of the local crack market. This data is important to consider for it helps contextualise the social and structural backdrop to crack users’ lifestyles and practices (Chapter 5) and decision-making (Chapter 7).
