ABSTRACT

Conceptual change is most meaningful when it is intentional (Dole & Sinatra, 1998). In order for intentional conceptual change to occur, according to Luque (2003), learners must be aware of a need to change and be able to know what to change; learners must want to change, making change as a personal goal; and learners must be able to self-regulate the process of change; that is, be able to plan, monitor, and evaluate the process (self-regulation prerequisite). The question that pervades much of the work described in the book is, “how do we engage and encourage intentional conceptual change?”
