ABSTRACT

In 1984 the United States fundamentalists went global with a policy presented at the International Conference on Population in Mexico City. Through this travesty, the Reagan Administration simply defunded worldwide any organizations whose subgrantees or sub-subgrantees trafficked in information about pregnancy termination, even with one half of one percent of their non-U.S. funds. Among major casualties were the two most effective family planning institutions in the world: United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which devotes its resources to offsetting the inevitable doubling of the planet's population (now at over 5 billion) by 2025 (Washington Post 5/17/89), and International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), whose constitution precludes its imposing pronatalism upon foreign affiliates.
