ABSTRACT

Evaluation in intervention research is empirical inquiry directed toward determining the effects of the intervention, including its effectiveness. Although there is typically some evaluation of aspects of the intervention at most points of the D&D process, major emphasis is placed on systematic outcome evaluation in the phase of evaluation and advanced development. As an integral part of the innovation process, evaluation should provide the necessary results to determine whether the innovation should be retained and utilized more or less as it was designed or should be redesigned and developed further. Satisfactory results in evaluation generally provide a basis for moving ahead into the subsequent phase of dissemination.
