ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses methods and issues in the design of social intervention, the third phase of Intervention Design and Development. The methodology of intervention research is not well developed, and design is the least developed aspect. In social work, research has usually not been a significant source for program design. While research findings are often referenced, it is generally not the case that such findings in a systematic way form the basis for social work interventions. And, for those approaching the topic from a “pure” social science research background, the world of design will be especially problematic.
