You may think that enough has been said to damp any one's enthusiasm for Pareto optimal positions. At any rate you will, I hope, have followed the argument well enough to understand that once account is taken of alternative price sets, associated with the alternative situations being compared, any general proof of the superiority of the optimal position cannot be demonstrated.
