ABSTRACT
The goal of the project is to compile an index of printed sources of hymn tunes with English-language texts from the Reformation to 1820. Each tune is identified in the index by an incipit of ten notes in numerical code. The tune itself is provided, as is the meter of its text, a list of its printed sources, and its composer or compiler. The article describes some of the difficulties encountered in cataloging the many tunes for the index.
