ABSTRACT

In the last chapter, we considered the critical realist argument regarding the philosophy of economics and some of the major criticisms of that position. We saw that the unique focus of critical realism (CR) as ontological attention generates a novel ontology and epistemology that significantly challenges mainstream eco - nomics. However, the question remains regarding what is proposed methodo - logically in its stead. We shall argue in this chapter that, in considering this question, we must reappraise standard CR argument in ways that fundamentally qualify its conclusions but without entirely forsaking them. This argument involves two steps.
