ABSTRACT

Buildings have a number of roles and are constructed from a variety of materials, often depending on where they are built and for what purpose. Humans have altered the landscape by cutting down trees and ploughing the land as well as constructing dwellings. The pathways that people built have become paved roads constructed from hard materials rather than mud, often in towns with sidewalks or pavements and with bridges for people to cross away from traffic. People paint signs on the road and put items on them such as traffic lights, and things on the pavements such as seats and postboxes. Buildings have particular functions such as shops for various produce, homes, hospitals, service stations and leisure centres. The insides of buildings are also the built environment.
