ABSTRACT

Albert Baldwin’s love of coins was catholic. Turning over in my mind the many subjects on which, over the years, he had helped me, I thought that perhaps he would most like me to record the strange little find which I describe below. But for Albert Baldwin’s intervention, there is every likelihood that the discovery would have passed into oblivion. Yet it is, in its way, an important find; it required his eye and knowledge to recognise that in these battered and corroded relics there lay a contribution to British history.
