ABSTRACT
Master pages, templates and style sheets are devices within the main desktop publishing (DTP) software packages aimed at making life easier for designers and publishers. There are several desktop publishing software packages available, but the two most often used for professional publishing are QuarkXPress and Adobe's InDesign. These are now very similar packages doing the same job in much the same way. InDesign is claimed by some to be more flexible and intuitive to use, but those who prefer Quark claim that InDesign is more complicated. Most designers are obliged to use whatever software package their employer has bought. It's doubtful whether one system is better than any other all of the time; the key is always how good you are at designing publications and at getting the best out of the system you are obliged to use.
