ABSTRACT

The story of post-war investment has thus run into that of technological progress and the behaviour of entrepreneurs. As we shall presently see, the two strands – advancing technology and evolving attitudes of business leaders – were so closely interwoven as to be almost inseparable. I propose, however, to treat them here as independent themes, if only because to the naked eye technological advances since 1945 are clearer than the related changes in the behaviour of entrepreneurs.
