Contribution: As the editor of a groundbreaking literary journal and Dean of Arts and Letters at Peking University, Ch'en Tu-hsiu was a central figure in the Chinese "literary renaissance" of 1915-1921 and in the May Fourth Movement of 1919. He founded the Chinese Communist Party with Li Ta-ch'ao in 1921 and served as its chairman from 1921 to 1927.
