ABSTRACT

Early Lives Pierre Curie, the son of a doctor, Eugene Curie, and his wife, Sophie-Claire, was born in Paris on May 15, 1859. He was taught at home by his father. At the age of fourteen, he developed an avid interest in mathematics. He studied at the Sorbonne, from which he received his bachelor of science degree, and later became a laboratory assistant there. In 1882, he was appointed supervisor at the Ecole de Physique et de Chemie Industrielle in Paris, as well as serving there as a professor from 1894 until 1904. Also, in 1894, Pierre would meet Marie Sklodowska.
