M A D R I D MADRID is one of the AUTONOMÍAS; the city of MADRID is its regional capital, as well as being the national capital. It has a population of almost five million inhabitants and covers an area of 7,995 kilometres. It is situated in the very centre of the Spanish peninsula. The city of MADRID is the major administrative, banking and transportation centre of Spain and is the Spanish headquarters of most national and international companies. Industries include light engineering, electronic components, construction and food and drink processing. The industrial base of the city is currently being developed, especially new, high-tech industries, MADRID is also important in the service sector.
