Y A N E S , ELÍAS (1928-) Archbishop of ZARAGOZA since 1977, YANES is also presidente of the CONFERENCIA ESPAÑOLA EPISCOPAL, the representative body of the Spanish bishops which pronounces on ethical issues and questions of interest to the church. He is known to have liberal views and played an important part in the discussions with the government on the changing role of education in Spain.
