EICHINGER, BERND (1949-) Film producer and distributor who founded the production company Solaris in 1974 and took over production company Neue Constantin in 1979. He has enjoyed international box-office successes with productions such as Das Boot (1981) and The Name of the Rose (1986). Das Geisterhaus ((994) was also a smash-hit with more than four million tickets sold in the BRD. His other productions include Falsche Bewegung (1974) directed by W. WENDERS, and Hitler. Ein Film aus Deutschland (1976/1977) directed by H.-J. SYBERBERG.
