ABSTRACT

Learning is strongly affected by the context in which the learning is placed, the role the student is expected to play in the context for learning and the relationship of the content to the context and role. Context is concerned with the relationship of the domains of knowledge affecting the solution and the transfer of cognitive skills to solve problems. Although gifted children may appear more capable, they will have differential levels of ability in different knowledge domains and one of the most common variables is that of verbal reasoning skills, which directly affects their ability to read and write. In considering context as an enrichment tool it is not just the physical situation in which the knowledge or concepts are set, but also the framework of the text that will affect the degree of challenge for the student.
