ABSTRACT

This project is suitable for children in upper primary and lower secondary years. It was devised for a class of nine- to ten-year-olds in a town school judged to have serious weaknesses and in which the underachievement of boys had been identified as a particular issue. The project was designed as a cross-curricular arts topic, including art, music and dance, steered by the work in drama and English. It was designed as a week-long topic, taking up approximately 65 per cent of the curriculum time, with some further time being set aside in the following week to complete art work and to prepare for a short performance. The story needs to be presented to the children in five episodes as the element of suspense is important throughout.
