ABSTRACT

Evaporites and brines are the sources of several soluble salts of considerable industrial importance, including sodium chloride (halite), soda ash (sodium carbonate), borates, sodium sulfate, and potash (KCl). Magnesia (MgO) and the metals, magnesium and lithium, are derived from brines.
