ABSTRACT

After the death of his father Alag Jinong, Altan Khagan married the third of the former’s wives, by name Molon Khatun. They had one son called Töbed Taiji. When this son died, the queen his mother, who was not afraid of sinning, was causing some children to be killed, with the intention of killing the children of one hundred persons in order tomaccompoany him, and of killing the calves of one hundred camel-cows with the intention of having them howl. Dissension threatened to break out amongst the great people. Yogandulai Kiya Taiji, son of Sinigei Örlög of the Monggoljin said: ‘Other people will torment the child in that land. I shall go. Kill me and let me follow him.’ But as it was not permissible to kill him they stopped what they were doing and stopped killing thereafter.
