ABSTRACT

Since the creation of the State of Israel a rapid process of municipalization has set in due to the tripling and wider distribution of the country’s population, the establishment of new settlements and the expansion of existing ones. Local councils expanded and were granted the status of town councils. Municipal status was also given to localities which had hitherto lacked it and also to new settlements. A characteristic feature of this period was the setting up of regional councils.
