ABSTRACT

The northern section of the Upper Galilean highlands lies outside the borders of Israel; the lower section, however, which is Israel’s territory, includes some of the highest mountains in the country. These mountains are composed of hard dolomite. The mountain range, which begins in the neighbourhood of the city of Safad, is known as the Mountains of Naphtali. This range constitutes the main watershed of streams flowing both to the Mediterranean and to the Jordan and Lake Hulah. It is a typical highland region devoid of high plateaux or extensive plains, and without large basins or wide valleys. The largest and prettiest valley is the Vale of Kadesh Naphtali.
