ABSTRACT
Almost all of this book has been about the patterns of industry established by the decisions of individual industrialists in a fundamentally laissez-faire economy. Only after 1940 did the government make any serious attempt to affect industrial location in London. Today, however, this attempt is part of the declared policy of successive governments. This chapter sketches briefly the evolution of the new policy, and tries to estimate its success.
