ABSTRACT

THE merger of the Renold and the Coventry-Brampton companies took place in 1930. As long ago as 1919, however, the idea of such an amalgamation of interests had been conceived in the minds of Hans Renold and Mr. C. G. Renold. One of the first documents touching upon the question of amalgamation of the three companies is a paper on the subject prepared early in 1919 by Mr. C. G. Renold, which succinctly states the advantages of amalgamation. It is interesting not only from the historical point of view, but as showing the writer's grasp of the advantages of socially responsible rationalisation, long before the word ‘ rationalisation ’ came into common use or was, indeed, known at all.
