ABSTRACT

This chapter and the next contain accounts of the technical influences in the history of Renold Chains Limited and its forerunners. In this one are set out the principal facts in precision chain invention and design. In Chapter 3 are discussed the effect of invention and technique upon demand and markets, and vice versa. We have seen the way in which the career of Hans Renold established the precision chain industry. If we now examine the more detailed results brought about by his personality and his exact conceptions, and by the talents of the men who accompanied or succeeded him, we shall find the frame in which may be seen in true perspective the picture of the events from which the company has grown.
