Zelazny's Amber series generally follows the pattern of the Grail quest and wasteland themes. The parallels are strongest in The Guns oj Avalon (1972), in which Lancelot makes a brief appearance. In ''The Last Defender of Camelot" (1980), Lancelot fights against intolerance when he forms an untraditional alliance with Morgan Ie Fay to prevent a reawakened Merlin from imposing his will upon a new age.
