ABSTRACT

Edward Michael Harrington was born in St. Louis on February 24, 1928. He grew up in a warm, loving family and a pleasant middle-class Irish-Catholic neighborhood. His father was a patent attorney who had fought in France during World War I, and his mother was a teacher. After attending parochial school in St. Louis, Harrington received the B.A. in 1947 from Holy Cross College, dropped out of Yale Law School a year later, and transferred to the University of Chicago to study English literature, where he earned a Master's Degree.
