Studying Walden—a weaving back and forth from preteaching, personalizing, associating, intellectualizing (the nitty gritty). I like a class period shaped like a hill—a gentle hill is best. The student’s job is to move over it in the course of 50 minutes. A relaxed beginning—some chatter, role taking. “Attention, please,” my signal to get ready: first step up the gentle slope and walking easy, still fresh.
