ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we focus on the ways in which Coombes establishes authenticity, supports learners’ transformation of knowledge and encourages co-operative learning.

The Coombes approach also encourages children to develop and own their own knowledge. Learning at Coombes is not done just for the sake of educational

tests or for pleasing teachers and parents. Children are encouraged to reconstruct new knowledge and processes to make them meaningful in the children’s own terms:

Coombes’ teachers focus, in particular, on active learning and encouraging positive feelings.
