ABSTRACT

This chapter is closely linked to and logically follows on from Chapter 2 on Human Rights. It begins by looking at the relationship between the law and rights and responsibilities. It then looks at the different parts and functions of the criminal justice system for adults and children. Pupils find out about the function of the different courts and legal personnel through role-play and research. Stories about miscarriages of justice are used to critically examine the challenges of justice as well as to understand the importance of the right of appeal.
