ABSTRACT

Farmer Bob lives alone at Home Farm, which he rents from the local landowner Mrs Billing. He has lived and worked there all his life and loves the animals and the outdoor life. He employs workers to help him at different times of the year such as harvest and haymaking. He is, however, becoming a little forgetful, and needs increasing amounts of help and advice from his employees. Once he forgot to shut a gate and the cows got out on to the road. One of the fences is so rotten that the chickens escape. One day, Farmer Bob receives a letter from Mrs Billing saying she is coming to inspect the farm. She has heard that things are not going well at Home Farm, and Farmer Bob is in danger of losing his home and his livelihood if the inspection goes badly.
