ABSTRACT

Although the fi rst ‘telling’ signs of diffi culties may be in moving, the as-diffi cult or more diffi cult, possibly even more enduring problems are to do with the children’s self-concept, i.e. the picture they build of themselves, and within that their self-esteem, i.e. how much they value that picture, because these have a profound effect on how they approach new activities, new friendships, indeed learning itself.
