ABSTRACT

With a few notable exceptions, children with Down’s Syndrome are most unlikely to be able to access the National Curriculum at the same level as their peers. Further, the gap between their level of attainment and that of the rest of the class is almost certain to increase as they move through the school. This is a fact of life that is not the fault of the school or of the child. Once teachers accept the inevitability of this process and stop feeling guilty or that they have failed, then real progress can be made.
