ABSTRACT
The audiologist prescribes hearing aids according to certain rules concerning the gain and output required for the particular hearing loss. The selection and fitting of a hearing aid is not an exact science and the benefit provided by the hearing aids must be evaluated. This can be particularly difficult in the case of young pre-verbal deaf children and a number of different tests may be employed. The principal tests are outlined in the following sections.
