ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 analyzes an exciting problem-solving approach to topic work. In common with many of the other case studies the children are given the responsibility for developing, presenting and evaluating their ideas. In contrast with the other case studies, in ‘Fostering inventiveness with young children’ the emphasis is not on information-seeking and gathering, but on employing the everyday experiences and scientific knowledge which the children have already accumulated. In this way children become information-users, in an inventive and imaginative fashion.
