The Internal Combustion Engine LIKE the steam engine, the internal combustion engine depends on the to and fro movement of a piston in a cylinder. The steam for the steam engine is produced by a coal-or oil-fired boiler outside the cylinder. The internal combustion engine is so called because the fuel is burned inside the cylinder.
