ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at how educational policy in particular, as well as other related factors, have affected the education of deaf children in the UK. In the majority of cases, changes in the provision for deaf pupils have followed general educational legislation or been subsumed under the heading of Special Educational Needs (SEN). However, the field of deaf education has still maintained its own uniqueness and been constantly surrounded by controversy.
