ABSTRACT

Another aspect of sacred theory deals with the ways families try to avoid undesirable behavior and how they cope with it when it cannot be avoided. Given the fallible and imperfect nature of we humans, it is inevitable and unavoidable that undesirable behavior will occur in families. And unfortunately, it doesn’t just occur, it occurs frequently, even in families that are effective and successful. As children mature they try out many undesirable behaviors, and parents find themselves spending a substantial amount of time helping children learn which ways of behaving are desirable and which are not. Also, even after people are grown, as the old saying goes, “to err is human.” Therefore all families find it necessary to deal with wrongs, and their ability to find constructive and facilitating ways of coping with these wrongs goes a long way toward being effective and successful or ineffective and unsuccessful.
