ABSTRACT

We suspect that some of the ideas in sacred theory are relevant only for people who believe in the spiritual-divine-sacred-religious parts of life, and that others are relevant for believers and nonbelievers. For example, when family members are loving, kind, respectful, forgiving, and merciful, this probably helps families of believers and nonbelievers; and, when people act in the opposite ways, it probably hurts in the families of believers and nonbelievers. But asking and seeking spiritual help may be helpful only in the families of those who believe the spiritual-divine-religious parts of life are real and important. Research has not focused on these differences, so this is merely a working hypothesis; but it seems like a reasonable difference and is one of the many research questions that are raised in this book where future research will hopefully provide new insights.
