ABSTRACT

Drama and assessment Drama provides extremely appropriate opportunities for assessing speaking and listening within the curriculum for English, as shown in Chapter 6, and many of the reading and writing activities described in Chapters 7 and 8 can provide useful contexts and evidence for assessing literacy skills. However, drama is not only a vehicle for the assessment of oracy and literacy, although it has a valuable part to play in this. It is also an important discrete area in its own right, as identified within the English curriculum, and there are valuable areas of learning and development to be offered by drama as an arts subject.
