ABSTRACT

There is no doubt that stimulation during the first five years of a child's life is of vital importance. It is during those years that a child learns to talk and to socialise and to respond to various stimuli. We are all aware that the ideal is that they need safety and security and a settled home life that is free from disruption, to enable them to develop as confident people whose aim is to attain their potential. The popular press and books on parentcraft all emphasise the importance of a healthy lifestyle which includes enough sleep, a balanced diet, exercise and socialisation with other children.
