ABSTRACT
It is probably true to say that almost every child beginning school at five years has a problem with spelling and handwriting whereas there are a number who arrive able to read fluently. With appropriate teaching and plenty of practice the majority of pupils can become fluent writers. Whether they do or not will vary according to their interest and motivation, the method of tuition, and whether they have an additional learning problem.
