ABSTRACT

Numerals indicate number, order, size or quantity. They can be classified as cardinal (‘one, two, three’, etc.), ordinal (‘first’, ‘second’, ‘third’, etc.), multiplicative (‘single’, ‘double’, ‘treble’ or ‘triple’, etc.), relative (‘twice as much’, ‘three times as much’, etc.) and collective (denoting ‘group of two’, ‘group of three’, etc.). The forms of the cardinal and ordinal numerals are fully listed in Section 6.1. Information about the forms of multiplicative, relative and collective numerals is given in notes 10–12 of that section. For the uses of the numerals see Part III, Section 2.7.
